AGN Populations from Optical Identification of ASCA Surveys

چکیده
To understand luminous AGNs in the z < 1 universe, the ASCA AGN samples are the best at present. Combining the identified sample of AGNs from ASCA Large Sky Survey and Medium Sensitivity Survey, the sample of hard X-ray selected AGNs have been expanded up to 108 AGNs above the flux limit of 10 erg s cm in the 2–10 keV hard X-ray band. We discuss the fraction of absorbed AGNs in the hard X-ray selected AGN sample, and nature of absorbed luminous AGNs.

In this paper, results of optical identification of ASCA surveys are summarized. To understand luminous AGNs in the z ≤ 1 universe, the ASCA AGN sample is still better than samples of AGNs from deep Chandra or XMM-Newton surveys. Combining the identified sample of AGNs from ASCA Large Sky Survey and Medium Sensitivity Survey, the sample of hard X-ray selected AGNs have been expanded up to ∼80 A...
متن کاملX-ray and optical counterparts of hard X-ray selected sources from the SHEEP survey: first results
We present followup observations of five hard X-ray sources from the ASCA 5-10 keV SHEEP survey, which has a limiting flux of ∼ 10 erg cm s. Chandra data have been obtained to improve the X-ray positions from a few arcmin to < 1, which allows unambiguous optical identification. While the objects almost certainly house AGN based on their X-ray luminosity, optical spectroscopy reveals a variety o...
متن کاملResults from X-ray Surveys with Asca
We present main results from X-ray surveys performed with ASCA, focusing on the ASCA Large Sky Survey (LSS), the Lockman Hole deep survey, and the ASCA Medium Sensitivity Survey (AMSS or the GIS catalog project). The Log N Log S relations, spectral properties of sources, and results of optical identification are summarized. We discuss implications of these results for the origin of the CXB.
متن کاملSheep: the Search for the High Energy Extragalactic Population
We present the SHEEP survey for serendipitously-detected hard X-ray sources in ASCA GIS images. In a survey area of ∼ 40 deg2, 69 sources were detected in the 5-10 keV band to a limiting flux of ∼ 10−13 erg cm−2 s−1. The number counts agree with those obtained by the similar BeppoSAX HELLAS survey, and both are in close agreement with ASCA and BeppoSAX 2-10 keV surveys. Spectral analysis of the...
متن کاملThe obscured quasar population from optical, mid-infrared, and X-ray surveys
Over the last few years, optical, mid-infrared and X-ray surveys have brought to light a significant number of candidate obscured AGN and, among them, many Type 2 quasars, the long-sought after “big cousins” of local Seyfert 2 galaxies. However, despite the large amount of multi-wavelength data currently available, a proper census and a panchromatic view of the obscured AGN/quasar population ar...
